Classical Music

 

 

- Music classes are generally based on the syllabi of the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) or Trinity College of London (TCL).
- 11 individual lessons per term, according to MSM Calendar 2010
- 45 - 60 minutes per lesson, depending on level

MSM Choir
Opportunities to perform at major MSM/Methodist events, attend workshops with visiting clinicians, premier new compositions by Asian composers. Includes choral reading sessions and vocal training.

Every Tuesday, 8-9.30 pm, at MSM

 


MSM Ringers
The MSM Ringers is a 3-octave handbell ensemble that performs regularly during special services and functions. Repertoire includes ringing with choir and other instruments. Anyone who has a good sense of rhythm and is able to commit to weekly rehearsals is welcome to join the ensemble. We practise every Tuesday from 6.45 pm - 8.00 pm. Seraphim Class
For ages 4-5. Introduction to music, rhythm and basic keyboard skill through games, songs, dances and other fun-filled activities. Designed to stimulate active listening and help children to sing creatively.

Class size: 5-8
Duration: 1 year



MSM Children's Choir

The children will learn repertoire, rhythms and how to play ensemble instruments such as the angklung and handbells. The MSM Choristers (age 7-15) practises from 4-5.30 pm on the same day. For inquiries and registration, please call Judith at 67675258.


The Young Organist
For ages 6-12

This course is an alternative to the pop organ; it includes an introduction to the pipe/electronic organ, the basics of music theory and keyboard performance skills.

Class size: 5-8
Duration: 3 months to 1 year
(We also offer a 4-week introductory group class)

Organ Discovery

Introduction to service-playing and hymn registration at the organ.
Participants must have at least a Grade 5 in Piano or Electone equivalent.


Venue: MSM / local church
Class size: 2-4 persons, to be arranged
Duration: 2-4 weeks



Service Playing for Organists

Stylistic approach, improvisation of hymns and contemporary songs.
Participants must have at least a Grade 5 in Piano or Electone equivalent.


Duration: 6-11 weeks



Basic Conducting

Basic techniques for choral conducting and choir rehearsal

Class size: 6-12
Duration: 12 weeks

Mobilize your church's musical resources. Learn to play the guitar to praise God.
Basic strumming techniques
Basic chords and strum patterns
Finger picking patterns

Advanced Acoustic Guitar/Praise & Worship Guitar
Learn to play hymns and contemporary praises
Popular strumming patterns, funk, reggae, rock for contemporary worship setting
Finger-picking pattern
Lead patterns for solos/improvisation


Electric Guitar Techniques
Requirement: Understanding of Basic/Advanced Acoustic Guitar
Scales, Lead patterns for improvisation, rock, blues, gospel


Basic Bass Guitar
Chord progression, fills

Advanced Bass Guitar
Slapping, Pop, Tapping
Bass soloing technique


Drums
Basic to complex drum rhythms, fill-ins and rudiments. Different techniques and styles


Keyboard
Basic knowledge of harmony and accompaniment techniques for contemporary songs


Voice Training
Singing techniques, voice projection, posture, diction and breathing, etc
